INTERIOR DRAIN SYSTEMS | EXTERIOR DRAINAGE
WATERPROOFING
Basement
Most basement waterproofing systems work on the same premise, by relieving hydrostatic pressure below floor level and installing a wall barrier to protect against seepage from the foundation. Some companies use expensive patented piping that they promote with literature or through network systems. Thomas Waterproofing Company works on the common sense approach that water flows downhill, meaning that if your trench is lined with rock and water comes in, it will travel the path of lease resistance through the bottom of the ditch and flow to the sump basin. This is called the capillary effect. The task of the pipe is to keep the trench open ensuring a clear pathway to the pump. Weepholes are drilled into the bottom of the foundation to eliminate water from standing in the blocks. Sealer board is then installed on the foundation wall to catch any seepage that may penetrate the structure and route it into the drainage system. Concrete is then poured back over the system directly against the sealer board, to reduce water from evaporating back into the basement (especially if walls will be finished after the system is installed).
